Following on from last week’s lively chat with Clover Stroud, I’m delighted to share with you this conversation I recorded with Sarah Johnson.
Sarah is a powerhouse. She’s an experienced educational leader, consultant, and author with over two decades of expertise in emotional well-being, behaviour, and systems change in education.
Sarah’s philosophy centres on a strong belief that all children have a right to an enriching and engaging education, and that we must dismantle the systematic barriers that stand in the way of this. This belief is at the heart of everything she does.
I thought we’d just chat about our experience of working with young people forced to learn in the margins. But our conversation was wide-ranging and stretched far beyond the world of education.
We discussed
the joys and challenges of raising many daughters
how we look after our bodies and minds
mental health challenges, including OCD, Tourettes, anxiety and depression
TW: sexual assault and raising awareness of violence against women
the many forms creativity can take
the importance of raising our voices
I’m so grateful to Sarah for her candour, and for sharing her expertise. I hope you enjoy watching.
If you enjoy my words, you can buy my latest book, Unschooled , described as ‘a searing memoir about the resilience, love and true grit of a family forging its own path…an urgent expression of resistance, demanding a more inclusive, compassionate education system.’ Readers say it is beautiful but it also makes them cry - the best type of book!
Next week I’ll be doing a live interview with Amy Liptrot, followed by Salima Saxton the week after. I have a long list of brilliant people I want to talk to, do let me know if you’re enjoying these creative explosions, I love to hear from you all.
