Oh, Caro. Thanks as always for your honesty about just how trying all of this has been on you and your girls.

You articulate all the hellish ways in which this government's decisions are having catastrophic consequences for our young people and their families, and this needs to be more widely understood and challenged.

Much love, and respect as always.

Really powerful piece. Unfortunately, to go back to your title, we don't have many rights as citizens in our outdated system of governance in the UK. It would be nice, for instance, to have a written constitution that guaranteed such things, instead of the inadequate, antiquated legacy from previous centuries that we actually find ourselves with. As you say: "we can do so much better".

Hi Jeffrey, sorry for the late reply I am currently without wifi so a bit slow on tech...

Interesting. I need to do some research into this. @eloiserickman is good on children's rights and has a book coming out soon.

We too are going to tribunal. How many children will be failed until the system changes? Being a parent carer, working, writing and having kids out of school is exhausting isn't it? Not to mention all the SEND admin there is constantly. Glad to have found you!

Thank you so much for sharing. This must be so difficult for you all and the system is so frustrating and inhuman in so many ways! I have found the mainstream uk education extremely unhealthy for my children but we’re lucky enough to live close to a Steiner school which offers them such a wonderful, supportive, creative and fostering environment that supports their natural curiosity and interest and gently lets them grow up. I can very very highly recommend it (in case you’re close to one)!

Hi Stefanie, thanks for your comments :-). I looked into Steiner schools a few years ago and thought about moving nearer to one but couldn't manage to make it work. There is not one near me, I think only a fee-paying one in Edinburgh. So pleased that is working for your children x
