Wonderful to see your video, I met you at your book signing in Fort William. I have literally just finished writing another email and following up on yesterday's online meetings regarding my 12y autistic PDAer who has not managed school for the last 4 years, but has had no alternative education provision to meet their needs at home. I had to resign from my job and have become a full time carer - exhausted and bunt out. Your writing makes me feel heard and visible again. Thank you x
Having spent my working life in special needs in mainstream schools l understand a little of your frustration with the system. I was very frustrated from within the system at how it failed so many children and worked with parents that were in despair. To have won a tribunal is an immense achievement. You have to battle so hard to get the right provision for your children .l love your work, have read your book and am full of admiration that you can find the time and energy to do this.
So so important to share all of it, I know that exact feeling of holding the whole world and it being too much. I feel I do not hear enough of the single mother voice out in the world, we are still silenced and hidden in so many ways. I would also love to hear more about how you balance creativity, earning, motherhood and self nourishment, something I find to be a monuments task with only one high needs child x
Lovely to hear you speaking here. I am so grateful that you share the way that you do Caro. Modelling how to find ways to have a creative practice in less than ideal circumstances, speaking truth to power when it comes to your children and your lack of support from the state, saying This is Too Much on days when it is. The impact of being so open on others like me shouldn't be underestimated.
Thank you Caro for your continued work in highlighting how SEN parents also have the burden of educating children who do not fit into the system as it is. I have had two of my daughters both with EHCP s at home for 6 years. There was no choice and no alternative. I can not apply for or go out to a job as I am a full time carer also. Thank you again. X
Caro, I loved this wee video. Inspiring, tender and ever so generous.
I’m enjoying hearing the breadth of your life with your girls, your new love and all the educational tribulations (though enjoy is the wrong word for the hell of that). My heart joins yours in fighting for what our children need. Isn’t it such a lot to pull together?!
